Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology: 2024-2026

In October 2024, I moved to Butte, Montana to work as a hydrogeologist with the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology (MBMG).

Working at the MBMG continued to remind me how much I love research and academia. Currently, I am responsible for the monitoring of over 100 long term groundwater monitoring wells. I also contribute to field work around Yellowstone National Park, and spent time this summer inventorying wells in eastern Montana.

I am currently continuing my research remotely from Seattle, and returning to Montana quarterly to complete my field work until my contract expires in June of 2026.

Fox Hill-Hell Creek Aquifer Research

I have been heavily involved in ongoing research related to Montana House Bill 935 on the Fox Hills-Hell Creek (FHHC) aquifer.

I developed a 3D GIS model similar to the one I constructed for my thesis, to streamline the effort of identifying existing wells completed in the aquifer. I spent several weeks in the field this summer driving around eastern Montana collecting new measurements from wells completed in the FHHC.

This winter, I will be compiling field data collected this summer with the goal of publishing a new potentiometric surface map.

Enhanced Ground Water Monitoring in Big Sky, MT

I created this poster from data collected by continuous water level and conductivity sensors we installed in Big Sky, Montana. We presented this poster at the 2025 Montana AWRA Conference in Great Falls.
